Tribal Health

MANT has been implementing a project on “Integrated Promotion of Health of Tribal Women and Children” in the district of Jalpaiguri with kind, valuable and active support and cooperation of District Health and Family Welfare Samity, Jalpaiguri. The financial support is coming from Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal. The following service deliveries were being provided at the doorsteps of the poor and hapless tribal women and children in the underserved tribal villages identified in consultation with concerned Block Authorities of 10 Blocks of the District i.e. Mal, Matiali, Madarihat, Nagrakata, Kumargram, Alipurduar-I and II, Falakata, Dhupguri and Maynaguri –
  1. Routine Immunization
  2. ANC, PNC and promotion of Institutional Delivery
  3. Treatment of Common ailments
  4. Prevention and Management of RTIs and STIs and Malaria
  5. Treatment of Diarrhoea and ARI

Objectives :

  • » To empower poor tribal women around their health needs
  • » To help hapless women and children for the fuller utilization of primary health care services provided by the Government
  • » To make measurable improvement in tribal women and child health by training people of tribal communities and by community awareness and organisation
  • » To bring together all players in the health sector, integrate all the developmental activities related to proximate determinants of health for improving the health status of the tribal women and children by developing a sustainable model of health care system
The programme got initiated at the fag end of February 2007. Total 159 underserved tribal villages were selected in 10 Blocks where monthly Outreach Camps could be organized to cater the medical needs of the underserved, tribal populace. 10 Block Level Health Facilitators were trained and placed in the Block headquarters to manage the camps and other programmes. Apart from that 159 Village Link Workers, all are tribal women were also selected and trained to organize, popularize and manage tribal health outreach camps at their respective villages
