Total Sanitation Campaign

In 1999-2000 MANT received support from Purulia Zilla Parishad and UNICEF, Kolkata to establish a sanitary mart at Dhadki village of Puncha Block of the district of Purulia to eradicate the practice of open defecation. The project principle of “low to no subsidy” where a nominal subsidy in the form of incentive is given to BPL households for construction of toilets was strictly followed by MANT.

Under this campaign MANT gives strong emphasis on Information, Education and Communication (IEC), Capacity Building and Hygiene Education for effective behaviour change with involvement of PRIs, CBOs, and NGOs etc. The key intervention areas are installation of Individual household latrines (IHHL), School Sanitation and Hygiene Education (SSHE), Community Sanitary Complex, Anganwadi toilets. Till date more than 5000 individual household latrines could be installed and 35 number of School Sanitary Units could be completed
